On Friday we had lots of fun at our annual Pudsey Paddle event raising awareness and funds for BBC Children in Need. With the help from school groups and eight corporate groups we managed to raise £330.
The children (and their teachers!) were all fantastic sports despite the chilly morning breeze and had an amazing amount of fun cheering on their team mates. We were most impressed with their cooperation and teamwork in paddling the katakanus, what great outfits too!
Fuelled with hot drinks and cakes baked by some of the Whitlingham Adventure staff, the eight teams hopped into their chosen katakanu boat and battled it out across the Great Broad in time trials. The quickest three teams then went head to head in the grand finale, rowing towards the roaring crowd!
The corporate groups and their team names we had this year were;
Norwich City Council – I like big boats and I cannot lie https://www.norwich.gov.uk/site/
Norfolk Wealth Management – Norfolk Wealth Management https://www.norfolkwealthmanagement.co.uk/
Norfolk County Council (Community and Environmental Services) – Row-works-ahead https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/
Broadland Council – Little Ship of Horrors
Broadland Council Ghosts and Ghouls
Broadland Council Ready Freddy’s https://www.broadland.gov.uk/
Naked marketing – Paddle-do-nicely https://www.nakedmarketing.co.uk/
Active Norfolk – Rowed to nowhere https://www.activenorfolk.org/
The winning team from Norwich City Council (I like big boats and I cannot lie, pictured above) took the glory and can proudly display the trophy in their office until next year.
A big shout out to the ‘Ready Freddy’s’ from Broadland District Council who were voted for the best fancy dress award.
We would like to thank everyone who came along, took part and donated. The fantastic effort that all teams went to with their fancy dress was lovely to see.
See you again in 2019 for more Pudsey Paddle action!
